Community is Medicine

Post Partum Suport: Brave New Mum
Come together to listen, share, learn, and support in a like-minded group of women to discuss common issues and struggles that come up in the first postpartum year.
Topics include: Birth story, Transition to motherhood, Body Image, Your New Baby, Relationships with others, and Relationship with Self.
The group meets every two weeks for six meetings, for a total of 12 weeks of nonjudgemental and compassionate support.
Next Session: Summer 2025
This 6 session biweekly program is for you if:
- You are a new mum (up to 2 years postpartum)
- You feel alone or isolated or misunderstood in your motherhood experience (often, even while surrounded by a loving and supportive network!)
- You desire a community of like-minded women to share with and learn from, where you can feel seen and heard and understood
Our meetings are structured as follows:
Week 1: Your Birth Story
After introductions among the group, each member is encouraged to share their birth story as they remember it. The group is here to listen, notice themes, and validate each member’s personal experience. The first meeting is likely to be longer than the following meetings, as we want to give each member the space to share freely and openly.
Week 2: Matrescence (the transition from Maiden to Mother)
We discuss the concept of “Matrescence”, growing forward from maiden to mother (which can be likened to adolescence, growing forward from child to adult). We share any struggles or losses that we have experienced through this transformation, as well as anything we might have gained since entering Motherhood.
Week 3: Body
We discuss the range of changes that our bodies and brains have been through on our journey through matrescence, and our ability to trust that our body will work the way we expect it to. We share stories of how our bodies have changed in expected and unexpected ways, and our experiences of those changes.
Week 4: Relationships
This meeting explores how the different types of relationships in our lives have transformed as we have entered into parenthood. We focus on partner relationships, friendships, and relationships among family members. We share our experiences of how those relationships might have been strengthened or strained through our transition to motherhood.
Week 5: Baby – Parent-Child Relationship and Parenting styles
We discuss recognizing our children as independent humans on their journey through life. Though they are dependent on us, they are their own people, and we are there to bond with them, meet their needs, and love them. This takes more out of us than we might be ready for, and it often involves reparenting our own inner children so that we can accept our actual children in each moment.
Week 6: Self Trust, Intuition, and Inner Knowledge
The discussion this week centres around our ability to listen to our inner voice, especially when it comes to decision making and parenting our children. We talk about changing the narrative from “right vs wrong” or “good vs bad”, to something more inclusive and spacious. We also discuss how we are the experts on our lives and our children, and our inner voices are there to remind us of this.
This group is here to provide a supportive environment that encourages a sense of steadiness and self trust, where we can all start to see that there is no “right way” of doing motherhood, only the way that works best for you. This ability to listen to you intuition and inner knowledge is the most practical and transferable parenting skill that I can think of!
We have all heard the saying “It takes a village to raise a child.” It is also true that “It takes a village to raise a Mum.” It will be an honour to contribute to your village!
